Donate
Please consider donating to Backdoors auto class. Examples of how donation amounts are commonly spent are shown below.
$20, shop supplies for safety and comfort, safety glasses, ear plugs, gloves. Headlight or tail light replacement. Fluids top up. Air filter replacement.
$40, covers the cost of a community member or students oil change. A front or rear brake pad replacement.
$60, can fulfill the price for a tune up of spark plugs and wires or a bad ignition coil
$80, can cover the cost of a control arm or other suspension component replacement
$150, would allow someone to replace their radiator at no cost to them.
$250, would give someone the gift of a complete brake service, front and rear pads and rotors
These are all just examples of how funds are commonly spent but any amounts are appreciated.
Money is always appreciated and its the single largest barrier we face in providing parts to repair and maintain vehicles. However, we also except other items such as…
Old car batteries
UNUSED automotive oils or other fluids. (solvents and brake fluid are not accepted)
Towels, pillow cases, shirts, socks, or really any fabric we can use for shop rags or spills
Tools and Tool boxes
Old camping pads or yoga mats
Snacks and drinks for class
Besides donations of material objects or money, we’re also looking for facilitators, people willing to help make class run more efficiently. Discounts on classes and parts provided for your vehicle would be some of the perks but really, you’re helping to provide mutual aid and support our mission of education. An example of this would be someone who has done a couple brake jobs and would be willing to be one of the leaders when we split into groups during the hands-on service days for brakes.
Keeping an eye on peoples safety who may be less experienced, double checking folk’s work, and being available for quick questions and pointers is the idea. Maybe you’ve worked on your own car a little and already know a decent amount, maybe you work at a shop and want to support education. On the Diag. Days you could help with diagnosis and preparing community members vehicles for the next relevant class repairs. These are just examples but a facilitator would provide additional eyes on safety and proper technique/tool use to ensure other people are doing alright. Knowledge and education helps with safety but you know who keeps us safe?
